Atypical Teratoid/Rhabdoid Tumor Symptoms - Oren Zarif - Atypical Teratoid/Rhabdoid Tumor
An atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor is a malignant brain tumor that usually occurs in children under 3 years of age. Adults have also been diagnosed with this disease, but their clinical presentation has not been as clear-cut as in children. The symptoms of AT/RT vary based on patient age and location, but the disease is most commonly found in the cerebral hemisphere or sellar region. Unlike other brain tumors, a diagnosis of AT/RT cannot be made simply based on the presence of rhabdoid cells. The latest WHO classification suggests that patients with alterations to the SMARCB1 gene and INI1 protein are at a greater risk of developing the disease.

Among the symptoms of AT/RT, the most prominent one is epilepsy. Although an early stage of this condition can be life-threatening, ATRT is not life-threatening. The first symptom of AT/RT is seizure. However, as the disease progresses, patients experience difficulty in breathing, urinating, and experiencing headaches. Because of its aggressiveness, it must be diagnosed by a doctor at the earliest opportunity.

Tests to detect atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor include spinal cord and brain imaging. A physical examination will check for lumps and unusual symptoms. You may also need to undergo a neurological exam, which checks your nerve function and mental status. A neurologic examination will determine whether you can walk or move properly. Your reflexes and senses will be tested, and a biopsy may be necessary to determine whether you have a malignancy.

Atypical Teratoid/Rhomboidal tumors are extremely rare in children, affecting only about one percent of those affected by brain tumours. It is usually diagnosed in children aged 3 years or younger, although it can be found in adults as well. Treatment for this type of tumor is typically complicated and can lead to a reduced quality of life. The average survival time for an AT/RT patient is several months. Fortunately, over 90% of patients survive until the age of 5 years.

Atypical Teratoid/Rhombdoid tumors are most frequently associated with a specific mutation. The mutation can occur spontaneously or be inherited. In about 90% of cases, the tumor is accompanied by a specific type of mutation. The cause of the inherited mutation is unknown, but in children, this tumor may be a precursor to other types of brain cancer.

Symptoms vary widely for this cancer, but they generally include a morning headache, a lack of coordination, and trouble walking. Atypical Teratoid/Rhhabdoid tumours can be recurrent. They can come back even after treatment. If they return, treatment is the same as for the original disease. It is important to see a doctor for a diagnosis of Atypical Teratoid/Rrhabdoid Tumor.

The symptoms of ATRT can be different in children. Some children may have an atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor if they're older than 2 years. Often, children who have a history of this disease should be examined immediately. A genetic test can be helpful in identifying ATRT. The child's age at diagnosis and genetic background is also a factor.

The signs and symptoms of AT/RT are different in each patient. A tumor involving the central nervous system is the most common type. About 90% of patients with AT/RT have a mutation in the INI1 gene. Some of these children are at an increased risk for other tumors. There are no known treatments for this condition. The disease is not curable with a biopsy.

The symptoms of ATRT vary in children, and they may be mistaken for other medical problems. Some of the symptoms of ATRT are similar to those of other types of brain tumors. Parents with a child suffering from an ATRT should seek medical attention immediately. If a child has these symptoms, the doctor should refer them to a specialist. The doctor may need to remove the tumor.

If you have an ATRT tumor, you may be wondering about what your symptoms are. Your doctor will likely order an MRI to confirm the diagnosis. MRIs are the best way to diagnose an ATRT. If you are unsure of your child's symptoms, you should contact your pediatrician. You'll want to know as much as you can about their disease to ensure it is not a threat to your child's health.
